Individual Reflections
Sarah!
This project has challenged me in many ways. Although I’m the main programmer on most projects, I don’t often work on systems like player movement and interaction, so this pushed me outside of my comfort zone. I had to learn and re-learn new systems, which ultimately helped me write better code. Communication with my team was also extremely valuable – staying organised and in regular contact meant we were all working together, moving towards the same goals.
This semester has been incredibly busy, so time management and planning were essential. After reading week, I wasn’t able to get as much done as I had planned, largely due to my biggest challenge: debugging. While it’s a normal part of any programmer’s role, the issues I encountered were not what like I typically deal with in other projects, meaning they took longer to solve than I had originally expected.
Still, I’ve learned a lot and am excited to continue development. I have learned a lot about coding physics-based interactions and movement systems. Over Easter break, I am planning to catch up by fully implementing the dialogue system and revisiting my movement script to improve it further.
