Devlog 5

Albus:
After the group presentation, we were given more tasks and work to complete. I went back to the level to fix bugs, such as things falling off, or colliders causing issues. This week I was just optimising the gameplay after a bit of playtesting.
Ashleigh:
Multiple pieces were created – such as bushes, strands of grass, brick walls and a leaf pattern. Regarding the bushes and grass, I had made two different styles of it, one had a more softer approach, whilst the other had a more rough and messy approach – with different sorts of greens being included. With the brick walls, I had to create two: to represent both the past and the present – the past being more of a red colour due to the red light reflecting upon it, and the present being more of a grey colour. Oleksandra had also helped me regarding background art. I had found another programme called, ‘Adobe Fresco’ – suggested by Oleksandra, which I had used to create another bush, this time making it look more smokey and more bush-like – I was testing out this new programme to see if it seemed to have worked well for me: and it did. I had also created a leaf pattern after finding out I could create patterns myself in Adobe Photoshop – and then pasted that leaf pattern onto a bush, to see how it would work.
Daniele:
Over the last couple weeks I’ve been practicing a mix of Round-Robin Stand-up, Video Stand-up and Group Chat stand-up communication with the team. I frequently review tasks and ensure everyone is on track, going on calls individually if a review day is missed or if tasks need to be moved around/discussed. GitHub commit logs are more frequent with the programmers while posts in chat are more frequent from the artists. While weekly tasks were posted in a separate chat with announcements I decided to convert everything to trello and take advantage of its checklist system.
I have now moved Alex to 2D background art, Ashleigh to textures for big general background assets and Kurtis on 3D environments. This is to make the most efficiency out of everyone's skills and availability, I ensured that these tasks were well explained for the upcoming week and that all the priority assets were to be completed
Kurtis:
I didn't get a huge amount done this week as I ended up injuring my right hand in work and had to get stitches. My job in the project has now moved away from coding and into modelling the 3D environment and objects which I've gotten a list of to work on.
Sarah:
This week I spent time researching different approaches to the implementation of a dialogue system. I found a blog that outlined a really nice way to do this using scriptable objects, which is something I wanted to learn about before. Fortunately, that website had another blog all about them which taught me everything I needed to know! Therefore I spent a day or two taking notes and teaching myself about scriptable objects. I learned about their uses and how important they are for reusable data and data storage.
Unfortunately, I was unable to begin the implementation of this to our game due to other college work taking priority. However, I feel very prepared to start it next week!
Oleksandra:
As I was assigned to create individual background pieces, I made some bushes and a tree. Unfortunately, we did not use them as this level is inside the laboratory. I also wanted to make parallax effect for the part of the level outside, so I made a blurry background.
